Sports Capital Grant Scheme information night

Following the recent announcement by Minister of State for Sport and Tourism Michael Ring of the Government’s €30 million fund to develop sporting facilities across the country, Mayo Sports Partnership will host an information workshop on the scheme to assist groups, etc, in making an application. The workshop will take place in the Mayo Education Centre on Wednesday April 11 at 8pm. The workshop will be delivered by Joe Butler who has been instrumental in securing sports capital funding for the Mayo Football Association’s facility in Milebush. Joe has assisted many organisations and groups from various codes in the past in their applications. Mayo Sports Partnership launches annual funding scheme

The board of the Mayo Sports Partnership has announced details of its upcoming Special Participation Grant Scheme for 2012. This scheme invites clubs and organisations which have sport/recreation as their central focus to submit proposals which would increase participation among target groups such as youth at risk, disadvantaged communities, unemployed, women, Travelling community, people with disabilities, and ethnic minorities. This may include setting up new clubs or additional activities which would increase participation within existing organisations.

Michael Ring TD, Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport launched the Get Ireland Active website at a club development seminar organised by Mayo Sports Partnership in Castlebar on Monday night.

Operation Transformation walk

Following the success of the Operation Transformation walk last month Mayo Sports Partnership is to facilitate twice weekly walks on the Westport Town Greenway every Tuesday at 7pm and Saturdays at 2.30pm.

Minister Ring to address Club Development Seminar in Breaffy

As part of its spring 2012 programme of events Mayo Sports Partnership is to host a club development seminar for sports clubs/groups on Monday February 6 from 7pm to 10pm in the Breaffy GAA Centre, Castlebar. Keynote speaker on the evening will be Minister of State for Sport and Tourism Dep Michael Ring who will be joined on the night by local experts giving presentations on a number of pertinent topics including child protection in sport, generating income through better use of facilities, social media for beginner clubs, committee structures/roles, and volunteer recruitment strategies. Indeed as part of the proceedings Minister Ring will also locally launch the new Get Ireland Active website www.getirelandactive.ie which is a one stop shop for physical activity in the country.

Fit4Life back in action for the new year

The Mayo AC Fit4Life groups in association with Mayo Sports Partnership, resumes this week after the festive break. The increasingly popular weekly sessions which cater for all fitness levels from beginners upwards, are an ideal opportunity for people of all ages to improve their health and wellbeing. They take place in a safe sociable environment and at low cost and are open to people over 18, with no upper age limit. All centres have trained team leaders in attendance catering for those who wish to walk, jog, or run or who want to progress from one of those levels to another.

Mayo Operation Transformation walk set for Westport

The new series of RTE’s Operation Transformation is once again joining forces with the Irish Sports Councils Sports Partnership network to encourage people to become more physically active in 2012. A series of walks, one in each county, will take place across the country on Saturday January 14.

Minister of State for Tourism and Sport Michael Ring, together with the Chairman of the Mayo Sports Partnership Henry Kenny, relaunched Link2BActive, an initiative from the Mayo Sports Partnership that seeks to provide opportunities in sport/physical activity for unemployed in Mayo.
